Headquartered in Chongqing, China, the Changan Group is a large state-owned enterprise setup by both civilians and the military. Changan Group is one of the biggest carmakers in China and is the largest industrial enterprise in Chongqing. Changan Group has had increasing business relations with Chongqing Aihua Machine and Electronic Co., Ltd. (Aihua Motors) in recent years.
Changan Group was born during the Westernization Movement, and became prevalent during the Second Sino-Japanese War, becoming an example of successful civilian and military cooperation in the arms industry. In 1957, Changan Group gave birth to the first jeep to be produced in the People’s Republic of China. In 1983, Changan Group produced its first mini car, followed by the first Changan engine in 1984. The group currently develops both vehicles and engines of all sorts, including mini cars, sedans, and busses of all classes.
Changan Group has three production bases, located in the Chongqing, Nanjing, and Hebei provinces of China, producing products as part of ventures involved with car making and military products. In addition to these ventures, strategic alliances with Ford Motor Company and Suzuki Motor Corporation have been formed. The Changan trademark is one of the most famous trademarks in China, and its brand value surpassed CNY 8 billion in 2004. Changan is the largest independent auto brand in China, and ranks in 20th position worldwide.
